Sir Ernest De Silva

First Biography in Verse   Greatest philanthropist Sir Albert Ernest De Silva (26 th November 1887 – 9 th May 1957) born at Rajgama, graduated & Barrister-At-Law in University of Cambridge . He was a prominent Planter, Banker, Land owner, Educationist, Sportsman, Philatelist, Buddhist worker and Social worker. He was the founder of many Schools, Hermitages, Monasteries, Temples , Health care services, Orphanages, Homes, Vocational Training Schools , and the Bank of Ceylon. He was knighted in 1946 and he was asked to become the first Ceylonese Governor General as an honour but he declined for personal reasons. He gave away lands, buildings, and funds to numerous Orphanages, Hospitals, Schools, Social Service Bodies, and Temples , Hermitages as well as individuals without fanfare or publicity.
