The historical book " Ape Rajgama " which is written by Jenson Rannulu, depicts the origination of Rajgama; Devapathiraja, chief minister (Yuwa Raju) of king Parakramabahu II, in Dambadeni Era was the founder of Rajgama in A.D. 1240. This Niyamgama (Town) consists of about 100 main and minor villages spreading in 27 square kilometers. It reveals the derivation and meaning of the names of the village in this area up to Kandy period. Rajgama was the ruling centre of Ruhuna region by Yuwa Raju and the author describes identity of community with Economic, Educational, Social, Religious and Cultural transformation of this Niyamgama.
